British Boxing Board of Control completes UK Anti-Doping Assurance Framework
The British Boxing Board of Control is delighted to announce its completion of the Assurance Framework, which National Governing Bodies (NGBs) must fulfil to certify to UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) that they are meeting their anti-doping responsibilities.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published the updated 2021 UK National Anti-Doping Policy (Policy) in April 2021, which all NGBs must be compliant with. This was the first update of the Policy since its implementation in 2009.
UKAD, which is responsible for ensuring that sports bodies comply with the World Anti-Doping Code through its implementation and management of the Policy, introduced the Assurance Framework for NGBs to be able to evidence their compliance with the Policy.
The introduction of the Assurance Framework is the most significant change in the Policy. It outlines a series of mandatory requirements which all NGBs must fulfil. These requirements include the creation of an education strategy and plan, the implementation of anti-doping rules and increased involvement of an NGB’s Board with clean sport.
Upon completion of the Assurance Framework Robert W. Smith from The British Boxing Board of Control, said: “The British Boxing Board of Control is extremely pleased to have completed the UKAD Assurance Framework and look forward to working with UKAD in its endeavours to maintain clean sport “. UKAD’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Nisha Dutt, said: “I’d like to congratulate The British Boxing Board of Control for completing the UKAD Assurance Framework, which demonstrates a commitment to clean sport. The British Boxing Board of Control can now fully show that it is meeting its anti-doping responsibilities.”

The BBBofC are delighted that Thomas Fattorini’s are once again sponsoring and supplying trophies for this year’s Annual Awards.
Fattorini’s have been producing the prestigious Lord Lonsdale belt for many years. A total of 22 Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belts were issued by the National Sporting Club until the British Boxing Board of Control began its governance in 1929 and began awarding the belts. The belts then became the property of any champion who won three title fights in a division. This has since been changed to four wins including one mandatory contest.
Heavyweight Henry Cooper won three Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belts outright in his seventeen year professional career. The most recent outright winner was Brad Foster in 2020.
General Secretary, Robert Smith said ‘We would like to thank Fattorini’s for their continued support of the BBBofC Annual Awards. We are very lucky to have a strong working relationship with Fattorini’s, who also produce, on our behalf, the best sporting trophy in the world’.
