The BBBofC is committed to creating a culture in which diversity and inclusion is valued and everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment in any form.

    This Statement

  4. 2.1. This statement applies to all Licence Holders applying for a qualification or holding a relevant qualification, where the BBBofC is considered to be a Qualifications Body for the purposes of the EA. We also have a separate Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policy and Equal Opportunities Code of Practice for all employees, job applicants, clients, customers and suppliers. This document should be read in conjunction with the BBBofC Rules and Regulations in force at the time (Rules).
  5. 2.2. Our aim is to encourage and support diversity, equity and inclusion amongst Licence Holders and promote a culture that values difference and eliminates unlawful discrimination and harassment. It applies to all aspects of the BBBofC’s functions when conferring a relevant qualification. It applies to individuals seeking a relevant qualification, to our arrangements for conferring a qualification, the terms on which a qualification is granted, refused or withdraw and varying qualification terms.
  6. 2.3. A decision whether to grant, refuse, withdraw and/or vary a licence ultimately rests with the Board of the BBBofC. Any such decision must not be made on prohibited and discriminatory grounds. In addition the BBBofC must not subject a Licence Holder to any unlawful discrimination.
  7. 2.4. The BBBofC considers Licence Holders also have personal responsibility for their own behaviour and should treat everyone with dignity and respect and not victimise anyone who makes a complaint of discrimination.
  8. 2.5. The General Secretary is responsible for this statement and will review it annually.
  9. 2.6. This document is non-contractual and we may amend it at any time.
  10. 3.

    Diversity and inclusion training

  11. 3.1. The BBBofC will ensure that the Board, Area Councils and the Referees Committee are given appropriate training on recognising and avoiding discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and promoting equality of opportunity and diversity.
  12. 4.

    Disabilities

  13. BBBofC encourages Licence Holders to inform the Board if they have any medical condition or disability so that the Board can consider what reasonable adjustments or support may be appropriate.
  14. 5.

    Complaints

  15. 5.1. The BBBofC encourages Licence Holders to raise incidents which they consider may be harassment or discrimination. In some cases, it may be possible to resolve the problem informally. If not, Licence Holders can raise a formal complaint in accordance with Regulations 24 of the Rules. Any such complaint should be addressed to the Area Council Secretary or General Secretary of the Board, as appropriate.
  16. 5.2. The BBBofC does not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against a Licence Holder who has complained about or reported discrimination or harassment. If a Licence Holder believes they have been victimised for making a complaint or reporting an incident which may amount to discrimination or harassment, the BBBofC encourages them to raise a formal complaint in accordance with Regulation 24 of the Rules. Any such complaint should be addressed to the Area Council Secretary or General Secretary of the Board, as appropriate.
  17. 5.3. The BBBofC will treat complaints in confidence and will investigate as appropriate. Where further investigation is needed, the Area Council or Board will contact the Licence Holder to ask for their comments or a statement. This will assist the Board in deciding what steps may be taken. The relevant Area Council or the Board can provide guidance and support to any Licence Holder.
  18. 5.4. The BBBofC encourages the reporting of all types of potential discrimination, as this assists the Area Council and the Board in ensuring that diversity, equity and inclusion principles are adhered to. However, making a false allegation in bad faith, or that a Licence Holder knows to be untrue, will be treated as misconduct and dealt with under Regulation 25 of the Rules.
