It is with great sadness that the British Boxing Board of Control has learnt of the passing of former Chairman Mr. Leonard “Nipper” Read.

Nipper was a wonderful servant to the British Boxing Board of Control and the Sport of Boxing.

Our condolences to Nipper’s family at this time.

The British Boxing Board of Control having considered comments made by Billy Joe Saunders on social media have suspended his boxer’s licence pending a hearing under the Board’s misconduct regulation, at a time and venue to be confirmed as soon as possible.

REGULATION 24 COMPLAINT BY MANAGER BARRY MCGUIGAN MBE AGAINST BOXER JOSH TAYLOR

1) The Complaint by Boxer Josh Taylor against Manager Barry McGuigan MBE is dismissed.

2) The Complaint by Manager Barry McGuigan MBE against Boxer Josh Taylor is upheld.

The Stewards and Head Office of the British Boxing Board of Control are saddened to hear of the passing of former Board Steward and Midlands Area Chairman Dave Roden.

Dave, after an accomplished professional boxing, managerial and promotional career, joined the Midlands Area Council and subsequently became an Administrative Steward of the Board, working extremely hard for the benefit of all those associated with the Sport.

Our thoughts and sympathy goes to Dave’s wife Pat and daughter Justine.

The Stewards of the Board are saddened to hear of the passing of former Referee, Larry O’Connell. Larry was widely regarded as one of the best officials in the World during a near 40 year career.

General Secretary, Robert Smith, stated that Larry was a true gent and a credit to British boxing throughout the World.

His funeral is to be held at 12noon on 21st January at Thames View Crematorium, Gravesend Road, Gravesend DA12 3JH.
