The British Boxing Board of Control and Sporting Chance were pleased to announce at this year’s Annual Awards Luncheon, the start of their partnership together.

The Board were grateful for the attendance at the launch of Sporting Chance, CEO, Colin Bland MBE, Trustee, Kate Hammond and Founder, Tony Adams MBE.

Sporting Chance are a specialist charity that understands the unique pressure of elite sport – from performance expectations an injury, to retirement and life beyond competition. They have provided confidential clinal support to sportspeople across the UK for more than two decades.

Tony Adams MBE – Sporting Chance Life President & Founder said “When I started Sporting Chance twenty-five-years ago, I knew how difficult it was for a football player to find a safe place to talk about their emotions and thoughts that troubled them. I was one of them. What has become clear to me over the years is that this is true for others who compete in the different arenas across all professional and elite sport. It is always different, but the same. The mission today is that when any sportsman or woman has the courage to reach out for support, Sporting Chance will be there. That’s what I wanted, and that is exactly what has been built. Well done to the British Boxing Board of Control for establishing this partnership”

Colin Bland MBE – CEO Sporting Chance added “We are delighted to be working with the British Boxing Board of Control to support their licence holders. Sporting Chance will provide an immediate and confidential response to those who reach out for support. Our philosophy is that if something is important enough to you to want to change it, it’s important to us. Our work and conversations with the Board lead me to believe that we are aligned, and their want to support fighters is clear. I would like to thank them for their considered approach to this partnership and assure boxing that we are here to help”

All licence holders will have access to a Sporting Chance helpline – 07780 008877 - and professional talking therapy services, answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by a councillor specialised in the support of athletes and people working within sport. This service comes at no cost to the Licence holder, and will protect completely their anonymity.

Should additional care be suggested, this will be dealt with on an individual basis and will again, not come at a cost to the Licence holder. The services of Sporting Chance will remain available for a further 12 months after retirement as a Licence holder.

Together. The BBBofC and Sporting Chance are committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of current and retired professional boxers. For more information about Sporting Chance, visit www.sportingchanceclinic.com
