Annual Summary of Anti-Doping Activities 2021
Following the publication of the new UK Anti-Doping Assurance framework in April 2021, the British Boxing Board of Control are committed to working with UKAD to ensure a Clean Sport. Below is a brief summery of the anti-doping activates carried out over the past year through the British Boxing Board of Control
CLEAN SPORT EDUCATION AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN. 2022 will see the introduction of our new anti-doping Education strategy. Our mission over the next 2 years is to protect the integrity of Clean Sport within the British Boxing Board of Control. Our Education strategy aims to target key Anti-Doping topics, in line with UKAD’s clean sports curriculum in conjunction with our sport specific needs. We plan to draw attention and understanding to all members of the British Boxing Board of Control to the following topics: Principles and values of clean sport, Strict liability, rights and responsibilities of Boxers, Trainer/Second’s, Second and Managers, The Consequences of Doping, The Anti-Doping Violations, The Prohibited list, supplements, medications and TUE’s, the testing process, the testing pool and ADAMS, how to report doping, substances and abuse.
EDUCATION Training courses are held over a day and half and include education on anti-Doping At the end of 2021 the following training courses had been held (due to Covid conditions, more courses were held in Cardiff, then would normally be held) throughout the Country 16/17th April – Cardiff 17/18th April – Cardiff 4/5th June – Cardiff 5/6th June – Cardiff 31st July/1st August – London 14/15th August – Cardiff 28/29th August – Staffordshire 16/17th September – Cardiff 25/26th September – Motherwell 16/17th October – Manchester 4/5th December - London The Plan for 2022 is for the British Boxing Board of Control to hold around 7 or 8 training Course which will have a continued anti-doping section and a new emphasis on clean sport. The Boxer’s Handbook issued to all newly issued licenses will be updated with UKAD clean sport information and upon renewal, updates will be sent with Anti-doping practices. In addition, all UKAD information and resources will be made available on all members through our website, updates, documentation and social media
TESTING As of the 1st January 2022 the British Boxing Board of Control had 1124 licensed professional Boxer’s of which 11 are on the Whereabouts programme.

BBBofC AWARDS 2022 POSTPONED
Unfortunately, further to the suspension of all Boxing Tournaments in January and the ongoing pandemic, the Board’s Awards have been postponed.
The Awards Luncheon will now be held on Sunday 6th March 2022, all details, including start time of 1pm, remain the unchanged.
If you were due to attend and are now unable to, please contact Head Office.

Tournaments in January 2022
Following advice from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel, Boxing tournaments under the jurisdiction of the BBBofC will be suspended for the month of January.
A new “Operational Document” will be forwarded in January prior to the planned recommencement of Boxing in February 2022.

Hamzah Sheeraz v Bradley Skeete 4th December 2021
Referee Steve Gray appeared before a Sub-Committee of the British Boxing Board of Control in relation to his performance in the Hamza Sheeraz v Bradley Skeete contest on the 4th December 2021, in particular his actions in round eight.
Having considered his explanation and options available to him under the rules, the Board accept his account as to his actions.
Whilst the Board have accepted Mr. Gray’s explanation, they would support the World Boxing Organisation ordering a return of this contest.
In addition, Boxer Hamzah Sheeraz will appear before the Southern Area Council of the British Boxing Board of Control at a date to be confirmed.

First Aid Courses
BBBofC First Aid renewal courses restarted over the past few weeks. We are currently in the process of organising further dates for the rest of the year. There's no need to contact us, if you're a BBBofC Trainer/Second or Second who needs retraining, we will be in touch with dates as soon as we have availability in your area.
The Board's first aid course has been designed to provide emergency first aid and injury prevention, specific to the sport of boxing, covering those injuries that may occur in the gym environment.
